Brief:

As ageing brings physical and cognitive challenges, elderly individuals often struggle to manage their healthcare needs—calling for a design that simplifies and supports their daily health experiences.

Research:

Secondary Research Insights: Older adults users often face difficulty managing multiple medications due to forgetfulness and complex schedules.

  • Low digital literacy and accessibility issues (vision, hearing, motor skills) limit their ability to use standard health apps.

  • Lack of social and caregiver support increases dependence and reduces adherence.

  • Many apps fail because of complex interfaces and overwhelming reminders that lead to alert fatigue.

  • Studies show that simple interfaces, large text, and contextual reminders improve usability and engagement.

  • Visual feedback (like progress or missed dose tracking) helps seniors stay motivated and aware.

  • Apps with caregiver connectivity show higher success in improving medication adherence and safety.

Empathy Map of User:

Problem Statement:

Older adults often face difficulties in managing medications, tracking refills, and seeking timely help during emergencies due to complex digital systems and limited accessibility. These challenges lead to missed doses, delayed responses, and dependency on others. Hence, there is a need for a simple, elderly-friendly healthcare solution that ensures timely medication reminders, quick caregiver notifications, and an easy prescription-to-order process.

Key Goals:

  • Ensure timely stock refills and medication reminders

  • Enable fast caregiver/relative notifications during medical needs

  • Simplify prescription-to-order flows for elderly users

Journey Map:

User Story:

Elderly man needs to refill the stock on time not to miss doses.

Acceptance Criteria:

  1. Medication reminder system must notify the user when medicines are about to run out.

  2. The app should allow one-tap refill orders based on previous prescriptions.

  3. User receives confirmation and delivery tracking once the order is placed.

  4. Caregiver gets optional alerts if refills are missed.

Priority: High – Critical to ensure continuous medication and prevent health risks.

User Flow:

This user flow aligns with Samir Das’s journey of managing medications independently. From the initial frustration of forgetting doses and missing refills (Stage 1–2), the app guides him to scan prescriptions, select medicines, and place orders easily (Stage 3). With dose tracking and caregiver notifications, it ensures he stays on schedule and feels supported (Stage 4). Finally, the app provides a clear report and reminder system, leading to peace of mind and improved health management (Stage 5).
